Permanent Residence Card

Post by melafafon » Tue Mar 25, 2014 2:07 pm

Hi,

we applied for a Permanent Residence Card using EEA4 for my wife, application sent mid-January,
card received today, I was very impressed with how prompt the service was (especially that
I am self-employed and I sent out a whole stack of papers with it!).

Anyway, if the card was issued on March 14, 2014, I understand my wife can apply
for UK citizenship on March 15, 2015, earliest, right?

And she can pass her citizenship test at any point before that?

Congrats! That was quick.

Yes. That's right. Don't forget about the English language test.

Not really.

If she apply after 1 year from the PR Confirmation issue date, the card itself is enough to show her status. However, PR is obtained automatically (after 5 years) so she probably have obtained PR status several months before applying. If she applies 1 year after the (automatic) PR status, she will need to provide evidence of your treaty rights.

Check Q5 in the Citizenship FAQ (link below) for more details.

Thanks, this is helpful. As we are not in a rush, we will probably do it in March 2015 anyway (less work too).
