Residence Card of a Family Member

Post by Hkahn » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:11 pm

Hi all, dont know weather this question is appropriate here or not. #

I am a British Citizen, my wife is Pakistani but she has ILR (Indefinite leave to remain). I am travelling to Spain, according to the information on their website;

"Family members of an EEA/EU National holding a valid UK Residence document do not need a Schengen visa to enter Spain, only if the following 2 conditions are met:
Travelling with/joining the EEA/EU family member in Spain (EU Directive 2004/38/CE, according to Real Decreto 240/2007, 16 February)
The UK Residence document literally bears the wording: 'Type of Document: "Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National"'"

Now does my Mrs ILR biometric card will meet the above conditions or not, if not, than what to do other than applying for her passport.

Note: Due to tight budget, we cant apply for her British Passport yet.

Your wife will have to apply from the Spanish embassy for a Schengen visa as the family member of an EEA national. The visa should be issued for free and within 15 days. A ILR issued under UK domestic rules cannot be used for travel in the Schengen, only visas/permits issued under EU rules or a residence permit from a Schengen state can.
