Returning of family member documents

Hi all!

Looking for some help with this please!

My husband sent off his application for permanent residency in May 2019, and says he does not want to request my passport back as he has been told it could negatively affect his application. He has been told by a solicitor that because he has a criminal record (reported for domestic violence), his application may take the full 6 months and he should not request my passport back. However, I have a job offer abroad starting in September, so I need my passport by then.

Does anyone know how much truth there is in what he is saying? I cannot get any information from the Home Office as he won't give me his application number.

Any advice is most welcome.
