Loosing my EEA2 visa

Post by makwco » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:07 pm

Hello,
I have a question. Im a non european citizen and I came to the UK last summer and even though my partner is a UK citizen we had to apply for the EEA2 visa under European law.
Now, its been a year after I have got my visa but my partner and I are thinking of breaking up. I still have 4 years remained on that visa but it seems that by law we need to notify the home office if we are not together anymore. We havent got married but we have been together for many years which alowed us to get that visa last year.
I would like to know what my options are if we do break up. Do I get to keep the visa? if we notify the home office about our breaking up how long do I have to leave the country or to apply for another visa? Do we really need to notify the home office about it? how serious is it if we dont do that? I only need to stay in the country for another year, would it be possible to keep the visa till then?
Whats the right thing to do?
Im in good terms with my girlfriend and she is not going to do anything to put me at risk of loosing my rights to be in the country. We are actually still living together, we just want to know our options.
Thank you for your help and I look forward hearing from anyone who can clarify my questions.
Thank you!
