Am I allowed to work with EU FAM visa?

Post by Emc » Sun Oct 24, 2010 2:57 pm

Hi, all
we are just about to leave Ireland and go to UK, my husband will start his work in the next two month in UK and then we shall apply for EEA2 for myself. I would like to know if I am allowed to enter employement in UK as soon as I arrive with my 6 month EU FAM visa ? It is just that currently I work for a big company in Dublin and they are happy to transfer me to a position in UK, which is in the curent job market is a real blessing. I so want to carry on my job and not to have two month off in between. Does anyone have any information on that ? My visa does not have any ''observations'' so I would think it means I can work... But don't know for sure. Please advise.
Thank you

It is. I advice you to apply for a residence card form eea2 once you arrive to the uk

Thanks again Guerro, just one Q- can I apply for EEA2 before my hubby starts his job ? We will arive to UK in November and his starting date is early January. We are still withing the 3 months rule, but can I actually apply before he works ?? and if yes, then what category will he be exersing his EU treaty rights ? Job seeker ? Thank you

No. You need to wait to apply for the Residence Card until the EU family member (your husband in this case) is working.

And to confirm - Yes you can work from the moment you arrive in the UK. You might want to apply for a National Insurance Number when you arrive.
