EEA3- Processing times.

Hello,

I was recently granted a EEA family member visa for 6 months.

I have sent my application in on July 22nd and have received a letter stating that they have received my application.

Does anyone have experience on how long the processing times are?

A family emmeber has fallen ill back in the US and I don't want to prolong my application by asking for my passport back, but have been reading that others have waited months for it!!

OR....can I apply for the PR from the US (NY)?

You are mixing the application form names a bit.

It seems that you have been granted Family Permit for 6 months outside the UK and you are now in the UK and have applied for EEA2.
For EEA2 processing time see here. The normal process time is about 3-4 months but this can take up to six months.

You can ask for your passport back. This has no affect on your application. If the HO needs the passport in a later stage they will write to you and ask it back. For the procedure to request the passport back see bottom of this page.

EEA2 application can only be done within country. However, with the CoA (letter confirming your application), you should be able to re-enter the UK (or if you Family Permit is still valid, you can use that).

EEA3 is for Permanent Residence (PR) confirmation and is used by EEA national after 5 years in the UK.
