Requeting passort return and then?

Post by richmond332 » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:34 pm

Hello everyone,

Many thanks to all of you in this forum.
I recently sent my application to the UK border agency and currently waiting for my CoA to arrive.

What would happen if I request my passport back after I got the CoA from UKBA. Do I need to give them back my passport later? Or I read from some of posts that the RC could be issued in A4 document instead of Passport. What does it mean exactly? I would like to ask you what would happen afterward I got my passport back since I might have to go abroad sooner or later.

FYI;
22th Sep, 2011: Sent application
23rd Sep, 2011: Arrived at UKBA
Waiting for CoA.

Both options are possible. Either the HO will write to you asking for your passport back or they will put the vignette on a piece of paper.

The only disadvantage of the A4 vignette is that it seems that some EU countries (France?) don't accept it for Schengen visas. Otherwise, it is the same as the one placed in the passport and you should carry it with your passport when leaving and entering the UK.

Many thanks for your clear reply, Jambo! Just got one more question. Is there any restriction for the number of days staying in abroad during the EEA2 application process?

AFAIK, all EU countries accept PR on A4 apart from France. Better to check with the relevant consulate directly.

Not really. As long as your partner is still exercising treaty rights and resident in the UK, you should be fine. If the EEA member is out of the UK for more than 6 months or move permanently to a different country, then usually he is not considered resident any more (but there are exceptions for that also).
