Contemplating EU route.

I have been focusing on bringing my spouse to the UK since we married in 2010. Unfortunately things have not gone to plan as I was studying at the time and have since being hunting endlessly for a job for the last year. With the new rules from the 9th, I am nowhere near 18k, but still determined to be with my husband.

I am considering moving to Ireland to use the EU route for my husband to join me. How long would we need to be in Ireland for to qualify, and does anyone have any idea how long the process is to obtain a family permit there?

My husband is in Jamaica.

You will need to be in employment in Ireland (employed or self employed) as the HO view is that only workers can use the EEA route to return to the UK.

There is no length of time defined in the regulations but the general figure stated in the forum is 4-6 months. You are welcome to challenge that.

As for Family permit to Ireland, I suggest you ask in the Ireland dedicated section of the forums.

It is better to do it in UK, to get your partner with you in Ireland, even when you are in employment can take anything from 2 to 4 years to materialise, so my advice is to do it through the UK system
