What should we do so my Bulgarian husband to be (we are going to marry next month) gets unrestricted access to employment in UK?
I am French, and I have been living in UK for 6 years.
He is Bulgarian (A2 national, with restricted access to employment), and has been living in UK for a year and a half.
Thank you for your help!

He should be able to get Registration Certificate using form BR1, once you are married. This will enable his unrestricted access to UK job market.

I believe a family member of EEA national (who is not A2 national) can apply using form EEA1. The timescales for EEA1 from Liverpool are shorter than a BR1 application from Sheffield.

Such application will not be processed in Liverpool but Sheffield as you correctly pointed out.
I agree that in law, it makes to sense to have these discriminatory practices in place, but unfortunately, that is how the UK wants it to be done.

Are you working now? If not, what have you been doing over the past 6 years?
Legally, as soon as you are married, your husband has a full right to remain and work in the UK. There are a number of possible applications that he could make to confirm his right to work, but the right begins immediately with marriage.

A EEA national (even A2) who is a family member of EEA national (non A2) can apply using EEA1 and that would normally be processed in Liverpool not Sheffield (although the HO tends to get confused with such applications - see

If you are the Bulgarian or Romanian family member of an EEA national who is not Bulgarian or Romanian, you can apply for a registration certificate using application form EEA1. You can find out more and download the form on the Applying under European law page.
The OP can also apply using BR1 but I believe EEA1 would be processed quicker.

Thank you so much for all your answers.
I have been studying during my first year in UK since this, I have been employed full time for the past 5 years.

Nice. So that means you likely have PR. If you wish to, you could apply for citizenship, and should note that any child who is born in the UK will also be British.

Yes I was thinking about it, seen the current political climate about Europe.

I was thinking to do it in person, and the site says the registration certificate is done in Croydon, did I read this wrong ?
Finally, if all goes well, will my husband get to carry with him the registration certificate to prove that he has unrestricted access to employment in UK, during job interviews for example ?
Can someone, who has received this document, please explain how he/she is using it during job interviews or recruitment process?
Thank you for your help !
