Hi All,

I have a question about when/how to calculate the 5 years for PR certification in the UK, and I'd be grateful for clarifications. Here are the details of my situation:

-- I am an EEA (Portuguese) national
-- 01/2011 moved to the UK
-- 01/2011 - 05/2011 Unemployed, self-sufficient, seeking work, did not register with job agencies
-- 05/2011 - 06/2011 Attended a language teaching course in London
-- 07/2011 - 08/2011 Worked in London
-- 09/2011 - 06/2012 Attended a teacher training course in London
-- 07/2012 - 09/2011 Unemployed but self-sufficient
-- 09/2012 - present, Have been teaching in Cambridgeshire

Question 1: To apply for Permanent Residence in the UK, will I begin counting 5 years from Jan 2011 (when I began residing in the UK) or from a later date (when I started working/contributing to NI in the UK)?

Question 2: Even though I was a student for periods of the 5 years, I was undergoing training with the intent of finding work in the UK. Does this still qualify as exercising EEA free-movement rights in the UK?

Question 3: I do have a EHIC from 02/2011 onward and I have bank statements that will show self-sufficiency but I am wondering how much money will these statements need to show each month?

I know that I will not apply for PR for a few years, but I just wanted to get some clarifications on the current requirements/criteria.

In general one need to be a worker (can include job-seeker for a reasonable period), student (must have funds and CSI) or self-sufficient (must have funds and CSI).
