Hi,

I literally just received my 'refusal' letter to issue a permanent registration certificate. I have been living in the UK for over 10 years and during that time I studied in secondary school, college and university. I provided all this informations along side its documents. Whilst studying i worked on and off part time too. All this was provided as well as 5 years worth of banks statements. They said that my application was refused because I didnt have evidence of comprensive sickness insurance and that I didnt provide evidence that I had resided in the UK for a continuous period of 5 years, Eventhough O did!

Could some one please help me? I recently passed my life in the UK test and was looking forward to applying for naturlazation. On what basis can I appeal?

I assume that for most of the 10 years in the UK, you were under 21. In that case, you can apply based on your parents activities in the UK. Did one of your parents work for 5 continuous years in the UK before you turned 21?

No, my mother has not worked for a continuous 5 year period and my father isn't in the country. Yes correct, I recently turned 21. I have been advised to just apply for naturalisation, Eventhough my PR was refused, but I don't want to do so because it is likely that it will also get refused and I'll loose the money. To add, I'm guessing they would also ask for comprehensive medical insurance proof.

Advised by who?

You need PR for naturalisation. You don't need to apply for EEA3 (which is just a document confirming your status) but you will need to prove you have PR as part of the naturalisation application.

If your mother didn't work for 5 years and you didn't have private medical insurance during your studies, then you probably don't have PR.

Could you detail what you and your mother did since you moved to the UK (i.e. work/study/stay at home etc)?

By the way - Why do you want to become British? Are you aware that by becoming British you will be subject to the (more strict) UK immigration rules in case you wish to bring a non-EEA family member to the UK (i.e. bringing a partner to the UK is a lot simpler to a Swede living in the UK than for a Brit living in the UK. Sounds unbelievable but it's true. The UK government can impose stricter rules on their citizens. They can't do the same on EU citizens).
