Can the non-eu national work?

Hi there

I'd like to know once my husband and I return to the UK via SS route, will my husband (non-eu) be allowed to work straight away? I understand in theory he should be able to because of me, but is it really that easy? What would he say if he was asked what his status is in the UK and would most employers understand what 'partner of an eu-citizen' means?

We will be getting the confirmation of residence done eventually, but it could take a couple of months or more before we get a result. He currently has a UK family permit, which is valid till April (or could be August if we get a new one) so would that help prove his status?

If anyone has any advice or experience regarding work before that I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Your husband would be entitled to work. The simplest thing to do is apply for a residence card.

Thanks EUsmileWEallsmile

I know it would be, we are going to do that asap but it could take up to 6 months and my husband wants to start working straight away to start paying rent and bills.

A certificate application would be issued to the applicant. It will state that the holder can work. It is to be issued immediately.

Oh thats great. How quickly would you say it usually comes? We are planning to travel so we were going to apply once we return. Can we apply once we reach and if we ask for his passport to travel will the application be withdrawn?

yes he can work but in real life it's no so easy. Many employer don't want to hire someone who have 6 months valid leave ( employer are not expert in EU law and they don't want to take risk) Just search in this forum you will find many . But your husband may be lucky but be prepare he will have have many rejection just because of this
