EEA Sponsorship - Time Frame to hold Sponsor's Passport

Hi,
I am an EEA Citizen who is sponsoring an extended family member (who is a non EEA citizen). The application has been submitted to the Home Office recently. The latter has received all my originals documents and my Passport as well as the documents of the extended Family member.
Can you please let me know how long does the Home Office hold the sponsor's Passport for before sending it back? I will need the passport back soon as I have to travel for work purposes and also because my passport will need to be renewed in 5 months time.
I was told the Home Office only hold the Passport for a maximum time of a month...
