Hello all,

I am a new member although I have benefited from this forum for more than a year now, it has been such a great help. I have a question if anyone can help me out please.

Some background info: I am an EEA citizen living in the UK for over 10 years. I have settled status. I brought my wife over from a non-EEA country in February this year and her visa is valid for 6 months. It will expire approximately end of August this year. I want to apply for a 5 year permit when this one runs out.

Here is my question: when I apply for the 5 year permit what are my income/salary requirements? Do I need to earn above a certain amount per month? Does my job need to be full-time? Does my job need to be permanent or can it also be a 1 year contract? I have to know all this because I have just finished uni and want to find a job that will meet any requirements for the visa extension.

Thanks a lot!

Mo

I don't think there's a specific number in terms of the minimum income they'll accept, but I can only say that when I applied for a EEA 2 card back in 2010, £30k was enough.

Thank you for your reply, my salary will probably be in the range of 18-20k or so as it's my first job after graduation.

Any more help would be great guys :)

There is no minimum income requirement and from what you have just decribed as your potential income, I think you shoud be fine.
However, having lived and worked here for 10 years you wouldn't really need to be exercising treaty rights for your wife to be issued with RC. Just make sure you have all your paperwork in place.

All the best.

Thanks for all the replies guys. One last thing, does anyone know whether my job has to be permanent or can it be temporary e.g. a 3 month internship? Will this be a problem?

I would recommend that you not worry about permanent job vs. temporary contract, etc. etc. If you have been exercising treaty rights in the UK for ANY five-year period during the ten years you've been here then you have already acquired Permanent Residency under EEA rules. As a permanent resident, you do not have to be employed AT ALL to have a family member reside in the UK with you. Therefore if I were you I'd apply for confirmation of your Permanent Residency under EEA rules (providing evidence of any five year period of employment, or self-sufficiency, or student status, etc.), and along with that submit her application for a Residence Card as your family member.
