Proof of funds for EEA1 (student)

Hi everyone,
I am about to submit an application for my EEA residence card as a student. I noticed they have changed the requirements for evidence of funds to support yourself. Would it be sufficient to provide a notarised affirmation that I have sufficient funds, as the form suggests? My parents are helping me pay for the course -- so I could get a bank statement from them -- but it seems that a birth certificate is now also required to prove that they are really my parents. Does this apply to EEA nationals, too?
Thanks!
