New PR application - claiming benefits

Good evening,
I hope someone can advise with this please.
I'm a non EEA citizen and at the end of June it will be 5 yrs that I've been in UK as a family member of my EEA wife. She received her PR less than a year ago, but has stopped working since then as our youngest child has medical problems and she's looking after him full time (not officially a full time carer yet, application in process.)

I'm the one who works and brings the money in. However, because I earn a low income, we do receive housing benefit, work tax credits and child tax credits.

Would this affect my application for my PR? I read on another thread here that the Home Office cannot actually legally request this information - can I really leave the questions about benefits blank and not have my application rejected???

Am I right that all that will be needed to show/prove is all my details, my wife's details (as my sponsor), my passport, her PR, and proof of address for the past 5 years? Nothing more, nothing less?

The PR form (ok, looking at EEA(PR) to be fair) actually has a whole section (Section 16) where you need to specifiy the benefits you receive, so I am not sure why it would be illegal ...

It does say though "Note: you do not have to complete this if you’re the family member of a British citizen and applying in the ‘Surinder Singh’ category (see section 10)."

Not sure Surinder Singh applies to you myself as you say your partner is EEA citizen and not British Citizen, but if it doesn't then there is a chance you need to fill in the details.

Better read the PR form to the letter to make sure.
