Steps to transfer UK visa to new US passport

Hello everyone,

I have done some reading around on the UKVI site and on some boards but can't seem to figure out the actual steps to renewing my passport and visa "at the same time". This is the situation:

I am a US citizen with US passport. My visa for living in the UK is the EEA2 visa. My passport expires in a month, and when I called the UKVI to find out what happens to my UK visa due to needing the passport renewed, they informed me that I can't get the sticker visa transferred to a new passport, that I will have to apply for a new EEA2 biometric card. I know I have to renew my passport first, but I according to the US embassy I don't get to keep the old one. Do I actually have to reapply for the EEA2 visa all over again as if it were never granted, or is there a particular form I can use instead? I found one called Transfer of Conditions but it says that EEA holders can't use it.

Also, my biometrics are already on file from when I applied for the EEA1 visa two years ago. Does this not help me in the EEA2 biometric passport application?

I am very confused about which form it is I have to fill out and send to UKVI, apparently I don't fall under these: https://www.gov.uk/transfer-visa

Finally, as far as I understood from the people I spoke to at UKVI, I have to send them the completed application with the fee, and then they send me something saying I have to get my biometrics done within a certain time window at the post office. Then when they receive the biometrics they send me another letter with the info which I have to check over and then ... send it back to them and they start the application and I wait 6 months?

Thanks for your patience and any help! MCR

9. Get a replacement residence card wrote:You can apply for a new residence card or permanent residence card if the passport containing your old residence card has expired - you can’t transfer it to a new passport.

If you don’t get a new card for your new passport, you’ll have to carry both your expired passport and your new passport when you travel.

Will I get my passport back when I renew it? wrote:Yes. In nearly all cases, your old passport will be cancelled and returned to you with the new one. If we are not able to return your old passport for any reason, we will discuss this with you at the time of application.

You WILL get your old passport back with the front cover punched through. The residence card will still be valid, though.
