Hi everyone!
I'm a German national who will soon be bringing her husband to the UK to apply for a residence card.

I'm a PhD student who is self-funded, i.e. my parents are covering my tuition fees and living costs. However, my partner and I are planning an elopement wedding, so we don't want to tell anyone about it yet. We can't really afford a big wedding, but are planning one for in a few years when we have settled in Scotland and saved enough money to rent Eilean Donan Castle. This means that we will not be telling either of our parents about the wedding.
My questions are:
1) The HO says you can submit a 'statement of sufficient funds' signed by a notary public? What does that mean? I go to a solicitor and tell them 'Yeah, I definitely have enough money.' without any actual evidence for it?
2) I could also submit bank statements showing income into my bank account from my parents. However, I do not want them to contact my parents about the income. Would they do that? How does this work?

No, not after studying the internal guidance. If the OP gets her residence certificate and then her husband's residence card, there is no guarantee the HO won't check with her parents twice, and if they apply together, the joint application might be mentioned to the parents. If someone thinks the answer's there, please provide an explanation, because it is not easy to find it even with the page numbers.

I read the guidance carefully because I wanted to know what one did for a school pupil living with its family. So I know it shows that the OP is thinking along the right lines, but that reassurance is of limited use. The OP's main problem is to hide her marriage from her parents.
