Hi, My girlfriend wants to move to the UK from Norway. She was born in Norway and is a Norwegian citizen. I am looking for advice on exactly what she needs to do to live and work in the UK.

I have done some research and Norway is part of the EEA. As far as i'm aware she doesn't need a Visa/work visa to live/work in the UK. There must be some sort of application process she needs to complete before being accepted to work and live here.

Any Help would be appreciated. Thank you Scott.

If she's Norweigan with Norweigan passport just get her on the next plane.
Tell her to bring her EHIC (health card).
Simple as that.

Once here she can register for a NINO (via jobcentre) and register with local heath authority for medical services.

She has a 3-month 'grace period' in UK (for settling in) before she has to be exercising treaty rights, for example by working, being self-employed or studying.
(She can crack on and get started sooner if she wants to).

Once working (etc), she can apply for an optional RC document to confirm her status. (See Gov UK website).

The rest is up to you.

This is the beauty of the EU (even though Norway is not a member, its citizens enjoy similar rights as part of the EEA).

She can literally arrive here and immediately start work. No applications for anything are required; a Norwegian passport or national ID card is evidence enough of her right to live/work/etc here.

Hi guys, we have set a date for moving on August the 23rd. I'm a bit worried now if we decide to leave the EU on the 23rd of June.

I know we won't leave instantly but do you think there will be any changes for two months following a move to leave the EU (If it happens). I don't want it to get in the way of her moving here as she has already started putting things in place for the move. Do you guys have any advice / reassurance.

General consensus seems to be it would take at least 2 years before we actually leave, but literally nobody knows what's on the horizon. I'd be more worried about moving here from the POV that the economy, the NHS etc are going to take a massive nose dive post Brexit due to these uncertainties..

Nobody knows for sure (how could they) but why put your life on hold.

My 2 Euros: Countries are like oil tankers, can't stop them or change direction quickly.
Nothing big will happen in less than years.

I haven't followed it too closely but Switzerland had some similar referendum back in 2014 or 2015 and outcomes still seem to be working through the system and waiting to be fully implemented.

Go for it.
(Don't forget the EHIC).

(But if anyone knows of a souped-up new type of oil tanker that can turn on a sixpence that would be good to know).

Thanks for the replies and reassurance! We are still going ahead with the move! She has already applied for the EHIC and has given notice on her rental property. As you are aware it's a huge decision for her and she's stressing about all the different possibilities.

At least now I can put her mind at rest a little regarding a Brexit if it happens. Thanks again <3

Look at this way, Norway is not even in the EU and it hasn't stopped her so far.
