Does my EU spouse need CSI?

I am British and my wife is Romanian. We have a British child who was born in the UK. My wife has not seen the value of applying for residence until now and the post-Brexit uncertainty. She does not currently work as she is studying part time and bringing up the children, soon to be 2 of them. I read in some places that economically inactive EU citizens should have Comprehensive Sickness Insurance- should she have this?
Thank you for your help. Roy

Thank you. Am I right to assume (hope) that the children don't need it?

No, British people (adult or child) play no part in this EU process; neither as sponsor or dependent.

I have a Romanian colleague in my office who has considered applying for EEA residence. She says in Romania it's possible to buy CSI at hindsight and pay for the necessary period. So your wife may be able to buy the European Health Insurance Card from Romania?

That doesn't sound legal. Surely, in isolation, selling retrospective insurance is a guarantee of business failure.

Selling health insurance retrospectively is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Only one thing comes to mind...
