Hi guys,

Really stressed with this 85 page application form and if I need a sponsor?

Currently in process of applying for my British Citizenship, I am a Portugese citizen have been since birth as my Dad is Portuguese, and have been told by home office my passport and any evidence of work education etc is not enough to prove residence as I need a document certifying permanent residence, or a permanent residence card. I am 28 and have lived in the UK for 21 years, I was educated here and work full time employed. I have never had any such documention as my passport and ID card has always been sufficient for any job applications etc but understand for my citizenship application I do as the rules have changed.

The form looks so daunting and I'm confused about the questions about a sponsor, as an EU citizen does this apply to me and do I need one or can I apply on my own and provide all my own documents? None of my family have any document certifying permanent residence so I don't really know what to do. If I don't need a sponsor do I just leave all those questions blank about sponsors details, as there doesn't seem an option for N/A? Do I just simply not provide any sponsor details? I'm worried they may reject my application as incomplete?

If anyone can advise me I'd really appreciate it.

If applying for DCPR in your own right you don't need a sponsor.

Also in terms of submitting evidence, say I've worked in the same company for the last 4 years, how far back do I need to go in terms of payslips? I have a letter from my employer stating my employment commenced etc, would the last 3 months payslips be sufficient enough? I don't have payslips from my older work history as that was a long time ago, but I can print bank statements, I just don't know how much they will need?

You need rock-solid supporting evidence.
In terms of wok, send a sample of payslips from every year plus P60s plus employer's letter & etc.

I have this for my current job, but don't think I will be able to Find much older pay slips for previous employment. Can I attach bank statements for each year for previous employment instead?

I have been here since 1995 so I was 7, how far back in time do I need to go as between the age of 7 -18 I was in school but not working? Would they need evidence going as far as 20 years ago?

No need to submit evidence for anything before your qualifying period. I have been in the UK since 1991 and it would be insane if I had to send everything back to day one.

There is probably a 5-year period in your childhood qualifying you for permanent residence. Your sponsor would probably be your father, though your father and mother could alternate if your mother was an EEA national at the time. You might even have a mix of qualifying as your father's family member, as your mother's family member, and in your own right.

If your parents have hoarded old documents, you should be spoilt for choice.

Well I asked all my schools to provide letters of my attendance so I even have one from the year I arrived in the country.

In terms of employment I don't have all payslips etc but I can go to the bank to get bank statements showing the money paid in by employers. I asked hmrc to send me a letter of my employment history too so would this help? Would it be safe to still send off bank statements too? I have a letter from my current employer but no way will I be able to get this from previous ones as most of the companies no longer exist!
