Administrative error PR EEA and passports not returned

Hi

We applied for PR on the 6th of May this year, the application was for myself my husband and 2 kids. It was a pretty straightforward case didn't really expect any issues. But then... HO tried to take the money and the bank refused payment on suspicion of fraud. Once we realised this I called the immigration help line to ask for advice. I was told to send another request for payment to the same address where I send the papers the first time and to include another payment sheet inside. I did that and after a few more days HO successfully took the payment.
At this point I believed that everything is back on track and we only have a delay of maybe a week. But again...after 5 or 6 weeks I received the papers through my post with a rejection letter saying that the application was refused as they could not take payment    . And after a few more days a letter saying this is all an administrative error and to send papers back and the case will be reinstated. I send them back on the 26th of June.

Problem: Holiday booked and paid for 24th of July passports not returned. I send the papers 3 months before my holiday allowing pleeenty of time for papers to come back, or at least the passports. I filled in the return documents form on the 4th of July and then after the 10 infamous working days the 'where are my pepers' form. I contacted the local MP and he didn't get very far either. Apparently there is no one anyone can speak to find out where are the passports. It's like you send them and they go in a bloody black hole.

Rant over, If you have any word of wisdom or advice I would be very happy to hear. But please please do not tell me how wrong I was to send the papers back a month before my holiday, I already beat myself up for it.
Thank you,
Dana

Confirmation of PR may take up to six months, even without any errors.

Can you change your holiday for one inside the UK?

Hi Vinny, I am not concerned about the PR to be honest, we are EU nationals and do not
depend on it. But the passports we do need them and applying 3 months in advance would have allowed me plenty of time to at least get the passports back. Do I have any option now?

Probably not in time.
Get your visa, immigration or citizenship documents back wrote:You’ll usually get your documents back within 10 working days.

You can get your documents back quicker if you ask for a faster decision your application. This costs £400, in addition to the application fee you’ve already paid.

Do you have the caseworker's email or phone number?

That would be good but I don't. On the rejection letter I only have a big scribble that's meant to be someone signature, but no name and no email address. It has the case ID number and reference, but doesn't really help as I don't have anyone to speak with about my case. I sometimes wonder if there are real people dealing with this or some oompaloompas from another planet

Also I did not receive any email or letter to confirm they received my papers just the payment taken, twice. Maybe this is common? don't know.
