EEA(QP) worker or student?

I have previously posted a couple of questions here about obtaining applying for PR. For a number of reasons I'm not completely sure that I qualify yet, so, I thought it would make sense to apply for EEA(QP) now, to give me more time to compile all the evidence needed for a PR application.
I'm a postgraduate student, but also work part-time at the university as a teaching assistant. At the moment my part-time work would not be sufficient for me to qualify as a worker, but my hours will go up after the summer to the extent the work might be considered 'genuine and meaningful employment'. I had planned to apply for EEA(QP) now as a student (I have CSI & would meet all the criteria), but I'm concerned that come Brexit, the government may distinguish between EU workers and students living in the UK.
I know this is all hypothetical, but I was just wondering if people feel it's better to apply for EEA(QP) as soon as possible (as a student) or wait until December (once I have 3 months of pay slips) and try to obtain QP status as a worker?
