Shall I apply EEA PR or Naturalisation ???

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I have researched a lot but couldn't found right answer yet.

My timeline :

Married to EU national in Jan 2012
Got residence permit in July 2012 valid till July 2017
My wife gained British nationality in June 2016

As per transitional law, I am saved due to fact I got residence permit before July 2012. My question is next year January can I apply for Naturalisation straight away. As PR is just confirmation and its not require. As my wife hold British Nationality now, can i shoot for Naturalisation straight.

Your advise would be helpful.

You must apply for PR first or your naturalisation application will be refused.

In theory, yes, if you take a trip to the Republic of Ireland beforehand, but I advise you to do as Obie suggests unless it becomes impossible. The target will be easier to hit if you do it his way!

OP would be well-advised to follow a conventional trajectory towards citizenship (especially as already being fortunate enough to be able to leverage the appropriate transitional arrangement).

@mkgpp92, a confirmation of PR status (PR card) is now one of the mandatory prerequisites for naturalisation.

Your wife may have just snuck in before the rule change at end of last year.

Is this now a verified statement, or still merely a prediction? I'm not convinced of it, but lack of news is a good sign.

Other members have used the transitional arrangement.

If you wish to question it suggest take it up with relevant authorities or via FOI request rather than confusing the issue on every member's post.

Please name one, or better, link to the report. The only examples I could find were cases where the sponsor was a dual national at the start of 2012, which I'm sure you realise makes them irrelevant.

I am not going to entertain your fixations on certain topics.
Recourse has been suggested.

I need you to desist from hijacking other member's threads with your own agenda; it is unfair to the OP.

:D Hallelujah! :D A trawling FOI picked up an operational notice that confirms the leveraging. An old enough RC or FP protects a spouse if the other spouse becomes British - provided he doesn't lose his non-British EEA nationality. I've a feeling the latter case still completely loses EEA rights.

Thanks everyone for taking your time to provide me advise.

So I still have to go through long procedure applying PR and then British Nationality. What a shame :(

I don't mind waiting just more concerned after referendum, never know what happen tomorrow.

What makes difference if I visit Ireland, sorry didn't know anything about it. Would it be more quicker ?

There are no recognisable shortcuts.
You are fortunate to be able to avail of the transitional arrangement as you are aware and I intimated earlier.

Suggest focus on meeting all requirements and procuring the official documents, step by step.
