Hi,
I've been morally preparing myself that I can get the permanent residence next year and suddenly found out that there may or may not be a problem with that.

I came to the UK in 2012 and was a full-time university student for 3 years, then I found a job straight away and for the next year I envision I'll be working as well.

So it seems all good but I've noticed I need a comprehensive sickness insurance for the period when I was a student (if I understood that part correctly) and I, luckily, do have 3 EHIC cards that cover my 3 years of studies. However, what made me worry is some of the websites are saying you can only use EHIC cards as the CSI in case you are declaring yourself as being only temporary in the UK, is this correct? Because I do want to get a UK citizenship in the future and stay in the country.

You can use EHICs as long as foreign-issued ones (not UK ones). So your morals are good.

The 'temporary plans' clause and need for some sort of 'letter of intent' doesn't apply when applying for confirmation of PR.

Ah, so I guess the "stating to be temporary in the country" only applies to applications for like the residence certificate (being <5 years in the country)?

Yes, those 3 cards are foreign issued, although I also have a UK EHIC which is valid for 5 years but I hope the fact that I also got the UK one doesn't diminish my chances?

I'm actually surprised that students need a sickness insurance and I am simply very lucky because my parents made me get my EHICs sorted as anything can happen abroad, but I knew that NHS is free for me anyway, so got those EHICs because "well why not".

Yes, the letter is (was) only required for the optional RCs.

No, no penalties for having a UK EHIC.

Its a requirement of EU law as per Directive 2004/38/EC. Its been in place for donkeys years and UK have been enforcing since 2011 or so.

Parents are great aren't they ; they gave you good advice at that time that is paying off now.
