Hi , I was just wondering if someone could help me on this matter plz.

I am an Irish Citizen Exercising EU Treaty Rights in Uk Since November 2014 .During this period i have been employed and self employed. In July 2016 my wife and kids joined me here in UK from Pakistan on EU Family Permit which was issued for period of 6 months.

I am now out of employment and just wondering if i could apply for child taxcredit and housing benefit, but would taking benefits affect their visa , as now their 6 months visa is running out and they have to apply for further extension of 5 years.

Plz someone guide me on dis.

Much appreciated .

After first 3 months in UK you, as sponsor, need to be exercising treaty rights.

That means you need to be
  • worker
    self-employed
student - with CSI for all
    selsufficient - again with CSI
    or jobseeker.
There are limits on taking benefits. Also limits on how long to be a jobseeker.

Family members don't apply for extension of a 'visa'. They may apply for optional RC if they wish (once you are exercising treaty rights).

One for the Claiming Benefits forum? Or would it be a better fit in the EEA Route Applications forum?
