Residence Permit- EEA Family Permit expires before answer

Hello,

I hope I am in the right section, if not, please let me know.

I would like some information about the Resident Permit, any help is welcome!
I am a brazilian recently married to an Italian, who has been living in the UK for the last 3 years. I have the EEA Family permit and I would like to apply for the Residence Permit.

1) I saw that he can apply for a Resident Permit and include me on it, is it better than me applying alone or it doesn't change anything?

My passport will expire in November, but I will be able to ask for a new one just in June (after go to Italy to do some burocracy), so I cannot apply for the Residence Permit before that. I will ask for the Residence permit in June/July (with the new passport), but I risk that my EEA Family Permit will expire before that I get the answer (my Family Permit is valid until September).

2) If my EEA Family Permit expires and I have already asked for the Residence Permit do I need to leave the UK and wait outside? What should I do in this case?

Thank you!
