Passport back request with no case number

Hello,
I was wondering if someone has been in the same situation and could advise me. I applied as self sufficient person for my PR over 6 weeks ago and still have now received a confirmation email from HO. I need to get my passport back as I have a trip coming up at the end of May (foolishly thought I would have my passport back by then). My question is: can you use the 10 day passport return service without a case number? Or how else can I request my passport back without compromising my application?
