EEA PR milestones during consideration by HO

Hi everyone,
I did not seem to see this topic elsewhere in the forum, so I created this trail.
I am a EU national applying for EEA PR (work route).
As I am new to the process would like to know how the key stages of the application consideration by HO unfold.
Specifically I would like to understand the sequence of 'events' following submission by post.
I would like to use my annual leave to travel back home for 2 weeks but need to know if once submitted my app + supporting documents there are specific circumstances that would require my presence in UK.
Can anyone with same background share their experience or offer some advice, please?
