deported from U.K. Feb 2017. Can rtn on family EEA permit?

Hi I was deported from the uk back to Pakistan as I overstayed my student visa for 3yrs. I was caught by the border agency and returned at my own expense voluntarily.
Now I wish to get married to someone who is italian but living in the UK for the last 6 months.
Does anyone know if this is possible with my immigration history? I remember when I left the UK they said I had a 1 year ban before I can reapply but I'm not sure if that is across all categories or just student visas.
Any help would be appreciated
