Hi,
I'm in a very complicated situation that I'm nearly getting depressed.
I am a (British born) non EU citizen. I am currently in the UK on a EEA residence card as a family member of an Italian national. this was granted to me 1 year ago on the basis that I have been living together with my girlfriend for over 2 years.
Unfortunately, we are now considering breaking up and living separately as we are both unhappy. I work full time as a doctor in one of the main hospitals In London, paying taxes and with no criminal record what so ever.
I do understand that in case this happens, I will have to inform the home office about the break up. But does that make me illegal here? I'm in a dilemma, I am only dependant on her in term of immigration but I'm financially sufficient. Q / Will I be able to apply under a different route for residence in the UK? What do I have to do to continue living in the UK and practicing my profession as a doctor with the NHS?.
Please help me with your advice

You will have to apply for the appropriate PBS visa from outside of the UK.

When were you born in the UK? Did you live in the UK till the age of ten? What was your parents' immigration status at the time of birth?

I only lived here for 7 years as a child, my parents were students at the time so I wasn't eligible for British citizenship. Is there a way I could apply from within the UK. I'm worried about the difficulties if I had to apply from within my home country due to severe difficulties over there! Also I have full employment here and it would extremely difficult to leave and get back with a visa in time.
