EEA2 as a job seeker

Hi all,
We need some guidance in applying for my partner's BRP eea2. He has received his eea family permit on 2/2/2018.
I am a student who is in the U.K. since September 2017. I have applied for graduate schemes in Autumn 2017 and was lucky to have received a job offer. I will start employment in July 2018. I have a signed contract and a form that demonstrates I have received a sign on bonus.
I have a few questions:
1. Should I apply as a jobseeker (with evidence of starting a job) who has been a student up until now? Should I get comprehensive sickness insurance in this case? And my partner?
2. Or should I wait until I start employment? This feels riskier as his EEA fp will expire in August.
Hope your experiences will be able to help us!
