What CSI did you have?

Dear all,

To those (EEA nationals in particular) who successfully received the PR card, and covered periods of being a student/self-employed/self-sufficient thanks to a CSI, which insurance did you use?

I am an EEA national that has been working since Sept 2014 (so far accumulated 3 years and 7 months). I am about to take a 6 weeks voluntary break, between two full time jobs.

Although my immigration lawyer (xxxxxxxx) has indicated that the HO will not require EEA nationals to provide evidence they had a CSI to cover periods of being a student/self-sufficient, I would rather pay for the CSI and waste a bit of money rather than take the risk and miss out. The HO could after all, go back on their words and nothing is guaranteed.

I need to buy a CSI before this Monday 16th April, so fingers crossed some of you will be able to recommend insurances that are 'comprehensive' enough to be 'valid' without breaking the bank!

Thanks!

Your solicitor is misguided. :!: EEA nationals do indeed require CSI during a period of study or while self-sufficient in the UK.

Hi Casa,

Apologies my original post wasn't clear enough.

I understand that currently, in order to obtain the PR (and my immigration lawyer confirmed my interpretation is correct) an applicant needs to have CSI covering all periods of study/self-sufficient/self-employment.

However, according to the Brexit news released end of March 2018, the HO has indicated that 'Settled Status', which is replacing the PR status by end of 2018, will not require applicants to have had CSI during periods of study/self sufficient/self employment.

Despite this 'confirmation' from HO not requiring CSI once the Settled Status replaces the PR, I would like to still be extra cautious and invest in a private health insurance nonetheless.

Just wondering here what provider people have gone for :)
