Hi All

One of my friend is planning to move to England to settle here, He currently holds Italian Citizenship.
Is is going to be straight forward case or are there any loopholes ?

Thanks

Well, he won't be able to get citizenship until he's lived here for several years. (At least 6 years unless he's the husband of a British citizen.)

But generally he can come and live in the UK, if he either finds employment or is self sufficient or a student. If he arrives either before Brexit or during the "implementation period", that is - nobody knows yet what will happen after.

You might be better off in the forum EEA Route Applications. This forum is about citizenship applications, which are only relevant after he's been in the UK for a few years.

By EEA rules he has the right, until Brexit and transition happen, to move here for an initial 3 months.
After 3 months, in order to stay, he has to exercise his EEA treaty rights (self sufficient, working etc..). If exercising rights but not working, he is required (by current regulation, it will change) to get private health insurance.

After 5 years, he can apply for a document certifying permanent residence (or future settled status). After one year of holding such status, he can apply for citizenship should he wish. Period is reduced to 3 if he's married to a British citizen.

Yeh big loopholes, weather sucks ;) Ask him to stay back in Italy warm. I'm moving out after getting my passport.
