2012 to 2018

Supposing i have spent at least 6 months each one of those years in the UK ...

All other things put to one side - does this count as five years residence ?

Until today I thought I knew the answer.

Googling the 2004 eu directive on permanent residency I have understood that each year that you do at least 6 months in an eu country - counts towards your 5 years residency.

Now obviously if you've been in the UK from 2012 to 2018 and done at least 6 months each year - let's say six months and a week ...

5 x 6 months and 1 week = 2 and a half actual years and 4 weeks

Is this sufficient for residency?

I keep hearing this 5 years continuous residence requirement being bandied about - but until today I've ( as far as eu citizens are considered ) thought that in real life - real years ... the requirement is effectively the equivalent of just over 2 and 1/2 years - because your allowed to leave the country upto 6 months each year .

So on the basis I've been in the UK from Jan 2012 to Jan 2018 for six months and a week each year would I already have clocked up 5 "years" residence ?
