UK residency EU passport holder

hi there,
hopefully I am posting the thread in the right index; I am trying to understand a bit better rules about permanent residency in the UK and what options might available to secure it.
I got a job transfer with my current employer and arrived in the UK in Jan 15, 2014 (physically landed) though my contract didn't change until Feb 1, 2014. When would I be eligible to apply for PR and when would be the earliest I could do so?
I am also considering taking a break from work from January next year, would that affect my eligibility? I have been fully employed in the UK ever since and beside taking the usual annual leave every year (less than 25/years abroad) there are no other absences from the UK.
