EEA(PR) proof of employment

Hello all,

I am currently working on my Permanent Residency application as an EEA citizen. I've been working in the UK since around 2005, and I'm trying to backdate my application for as long as I can, because I have a son who was living with me and was under 21 until 2012, and if I can show that I qualified prior to then, he could also acquire PR as my direct descendant. Otherwise, he will have to apply separately and wait a year to acquire citizenship.

My question is, just how much evidence do I need to show that I have been employed since around 2005, for example? Between that period and 2010, I can provide (1) a signed HMRC employment history letter confirming my wages and taxes paid for each of the relevant financial years and (2) signed letters from my employers confirming dates of employment and salary. What I don't have is payslips or P60s from around those dates, as it was such a long time ago, nor do I think that my previous employers will now be able to provide these.

Would these documents be enough for me to show that I was employed during that period, or would I need more evidence? If so, what type?

I am in the same situation, what other forms of proof one can obtain that has been in a continuous employment apart from P60 and payslips? and has anyone used them ? and what was the outcome?

Hi - not sure if you still need info on this.

I had a similar question, and got a very useful answer in another forum. Although the forum is manned by volunteers, they should be able to give you an answer within a day or two - you need to apply to be a member of the forum first, by answering two very simple questions. Point 3.6 of their FAQ file states:

"If you are unable to provide P60s or pay-slips (for example, you have lost the relevant documents, the employer is no longer trading or you are/your sponsor is unable to contact them), you should enclose a covering letter explaining why not and submit alternative evidence of the relevant employment, such as:

• P45s
• signed contract of employment
• notice of redundancy
• letter accepting resignation
• letter of dismissal
• employment tribunal judgment relating to the employment
• bank statements showing net income received from employer

If you need additional evidence of employment, you can request the following documents and explain in a covering letter your situation:
Get proof of employment history: https://www.gov.uk/get-proof-employment-history
Obtain the information HM revenue and Customs hold about you (useful to find past lost info):

Given you say you already have (1) a signed HMRC employment history letter confirming my wages and taxes paid for each of the relevant financial years and (2) signed letters from my employers confirming dates of employment and salary - it looks like this is good enough as evidence that you were employed during that period. However, the lawyers in the UKCEN forum should be able to confirm.
