PR document issued with wrong surname

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me with this.
In March I got my PR document after only 2 weeks. Unfortunately, it was issued with the wrong surname (only second name of double barreled name). I called the helpline and was advised to send an email to an address that was incorrect (accept email by invitation only). Then I was told I had to send the document back to the home office address in Liverpool, which I did.
That's now 4 months ago. I have not heard anything. Yesterday I called the helpline and was told that I should have sent it back within 10 days, which I did not realise, and that I had to start the whole process again and send the wrong document in with the application. Problem is I don't have that one.
Anyone been in the same situation or has any idea or advice?
Is there any way to find out if they are actually 'working on' a correction or whether they have just binned the thing as I had submitted it outwith the time frame?
Thanks in advance!

Write a letter to the address where you posted your documents and explain them every thing in detail.Thats what you can do your best at this stage.
