Validity of EEA Permit after leaving UK

Hi,

My Wife is non EU, I am an EU citizen.
She got the EEA Residency permit in July 2014, it is valid until July 2019.

We left the UK early 2015 because we both got some great opportunities elsewhere.
We visited one more time, in mid 2015 - but that was very shortly after leaving, so I don't think it would've aroused suspicion.

Now, I got a good opportunity back in the UK - it would be a 3-6 months contract starting this October.
Technically, we again fulfill the conditions for the EEA Residency permit - I would have paying employment etc.

Would she be allowed in with the existing residency permit though, or do we need to contact an embassy, and go through the whole process again?
Will she have a problem when trying to enter the UK? Has anyone got experience with a case like this?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Speaking from experience of someone I know (Non EEA- Africa) who had UK resident permit of family member of EEA. He was outside the country for more than 3 years and when came back had an explaining to do at the home country airport(Africa) but home is home so was allowed to cross, however when got into the UK the crossing was easier than expected. only the usual questions . This is recently end of last year 2017.
