EU Settlement Scheme Questions - smartphones + previous leaves

My spouse (EU citizen) and myself (non-EU Spouse) are thinking about applying for the settlement scheme in its current beta phase.
Details:
My spouse has a PR document. I have a FM BRP. Marriage was in May last year. Living together and been doing so from before we married
Due to traveling I want to avoid having to send passports/residence cards. I understand these can be scanned with the app. However, my phone doesn't have NFC technology to scan these document chips. However I understand my spouse's idiot-phone 6 can scan these.
Is it possible to do the application both of us using the same smartphone (My spouse's)?
I used to be on Tier 2 and Tier 4 previously. Is that relevant to the application? Would my previous leaves affect it?
