EEA QP Vs Settlement Scheme

It appears that there are no qualifying requirements being posed for getting pre-settled status (worker, student, self employed, self sufficient) or is it the case that if automatic DWP/HMRC checks fail then a qualified status proof is sought.
Was wondering if new comers to UK - EU applicants + family members are better placed getting Pre settled status Vs the registration certificate from EEA QP process.
Any views? Is the EEA QP route going to be closed if Brexit occurs by May 22.
