EEA extended family route

Hi all,

I've been reading this forum to find questions, regarding EEA extended family route, and I haven't been successful.
I would appreciate if someone could clarify whether a cousin of mine qualifies for the EEA extended family route.

Me: Swedish citizen with settled status living in the UK. Employed.
Cousin: Somali citizen currently living in Somalia.

I have been supporting my cousin financially since 2014/2015 with a monthly payment. She is living with friends who are due to move at the end of the year. She will have no relatives or friends to stay with. She doesn't own a property either.

Thanks

Do you have any proofs of the relationship between you and her and she gets financial support regularly from you?

I can get the receipts for the monthly money transfers over the last 4 years- I hope that shows financial dependency.

Thanks for the reply. Is the application straight forward in terms that I can fill out myself or do you reckon I should get help of a solicitor. Could you please tell me how I could proceed further.

with extended family member application would recommend a solicitor . check if everything on order. make sure you choose someone who have good knowledge about EEA LAWS. many solicitor have DOCUMENT CHECKING SERVICE before you submit them to the UKVI (Home Office)

We made the application few weeks ago. The appointment at the contact centre was 2 weeks ago. We have received an e-mail yesterday stating that decision has been made and documents are ready to be collected.

As a pessimist I'm assuming this quick decision=refusal.

Askmeplz82 what do you reckon?

I saw successful stories here in the timeline topic with just 2 weeks. But I also know that they are most of the times 14+ working days (which is 3 weeks).

You'll see when you'll (or your cousin) get it.

There is no point speculating really. Just wait to get the decision letter and you will see.

Needless to say the Home Office never liked these extended dependent family members applications. I have seen many refusals recently but wait until you get the official response and you will see.

UPDATE:

Refused on the basis of not showing enough financial dependency despite 1 year of remittance slips. Our solicitor said that their reason is ridiculous and most people submit less than a year's remittances as a proof of financial dependency.
Will appeal and submit extra 3 years of remittances (awaiting copies).
Does anyone know how slow/quick the appeal process is?

Hi, I'm far from being an expert but is there a way to also give them more financial dependency proof? I obviously don't know your situation, possibly your cousin needs money for something (eg medical treatment)? How old is he\she? Does he\she work?

Iwolga, I have been sending her monthly payments since 2014 however I can get remittances slips from 2016 onwards. We have provided 1 year of remittance slips with this application.

Does anyone know whether it is better to make a new application with extra 2 years of remittance slips or appeal the refusal decision?
With the appeal, from reading this forum it seems to take months.

UPDATE:

Appeal filed in early 2020 for a face-to-face hearing, sadly pandemic spread to the UK and the country went into a full lockdown.

At the end of Nov 2020 we received a notice of hearing scheduled for 04.01.2021.
I supplied few more years of remittances to show dependency for the appelants bundle.
I received a phone call from my solicitor today, 06.01.2021, informing me that she's received an email that the decision by the entry clearance has been overturned.
My EEA extended family application to sponsor my cousin has been a success.

Parents are not EFMs. You should post this question in a separate thread.

I think year run up to Brexit, they were refusing applications left and right with quite petty reasons.

Good to see that your application for both your brother and parents have been successful.

My brother has applied for my parents from Pakistan and they had their biometric before October. They have not heard back yet. What do you think why it can take time?
