PR application documents

Hi,
I'm (South African) applying via my husband (Italian) for PR for himself and I.
We've a few trips planned this year and we both need to have our passports and my residence card handy. The application states that the passports needs to be provided as original.

Is there no other way? I remember there was a service that would give you back the originals allowing you to submit a certified copy or something like that, but there is no mention...

If that's the only way, what is the timeline for processing the application?

The application documents sections states "Any passports provided must be originals", does it mean that I can just photocopy my Biometric Residence Card and the other residence permit I have on my cancelled passport?

Thanks a lot.

Forget PR .. under EU settlement you don't have to send anything. It's Similar to PR .. and it will be a Valid permit after UK leaves EU. it's FREE and you can decision in 2 hours - 30 days * average *

But does that allow me then to apply for British Citizenship then? I thought that the only way was either via ILR or PR...

Yes it does but you have to wait 12 months on settled status as settled status is not backdated like PR is. The only time you don't have to wait 12 months is if you are married to a British citizen
