EEA PR application with absence of 18 months

Hi all,
I am trying to find information on this forum about this but cannot find anything specific.

I first came to the UK over 6 years ago.
During this time I had an international job posting for about18 months (initially expected 6 months and then got extended twice). I did not return to the UK for a single day in this period.

The guidance talks about allowing 1 absence of up to 12 months for "an important reason".

An immigration lawyer advised me that we could still have a decent chance on this since I maintained ties with the UK (rented flat, wife here, salary paid in the UK, etc.).

Any experience or guidance on this?

I would like to apply for PR to then naturalise as soon as possible

Thanks in advance

When did you live the UK, and when did you come back?

First arrived in April 2013.
Left December 2013 and returned in April 2015.
Remained in the UK since April 2016, except for short holidays.
