My father is non EEA family member of EEA National and he is married to EEA national since 2015. I was issued family permit of EEA national and now I have been granted 5 year biometric residence card with work permitted. I am non EEA and 26 years old. I have been told by someone not to work and remain dependant until I am issued Permanent Residence Card. I have been granted Right to Work and I have missed lots of opportunities in bigger Companies. Is there anyone who can explain this point to me?

I had a discussion about this one with a couple of solicitors.

The idea is that you obtain an EEA card under EFM conditions (Extended Family Member of an EEA National). This means you have to demonstrate that you are dependent and/or part of the household of such EEA national (ideally part of household and dependent).

If the application is successful, you get a 5-year EEA card with right to work. And this is where it gets nasty: you are an adult, you get a job, earn your own money and even move to your own place. At that point, you are no longer dependent and/or part of the household.

When your card expires (probably Dec 31, 2020 due to Brexit), you won't be able to apply for a new one or a permanent residence as they check if you still meet the conditions under which your EFM card was delivered.
