What is the relationship between the EEA citizen and the children?

Only the EEA citizen can sponsor anybody under the EEA Regulations.

Thanks for you reply. As i'm not an EEA member, and my son as well, non EEA member. My wife is an EEA member, so I presume my son is a stepson to my wife and can be treated as close family member to my wife, who can be a sponsor - Is that correct?
