An appeal, is an appeal against a decision. The Home Office refused your application and justified that refusal by some reasons. In your appeal, you need mainly to try to respond to these refusal reasons, explain why they are not valid and present strongly your own arguments.

What were the reasons for refusal?

Was your application under Adult Dependent Relative route?

Hi Littlemoor1,

If you’re married to a French National with settled status why don’t you apply for EU settlement scheme Family permit? It gives your mum entry clearance and then she will apply to get presettled. You’ve got a much higher chance of success through this route.
Your wife would be the sponsor, but it is possible for her to sponsor her mother in law. You can search this forum for many cases of people who were successful.

Good luck.
