Hello to All Surinder Singhers here who were given a pre settled status

I was wondering how does one move from a pre setteld status to a settled status? Is this done automatically or are we supposed to apply for it (again)?

DH is currenltly applying for a pre settled.
Next May 2021 he'll complete 5 years residency in the uk.
Will his status then be changed automaticaly or is he going to have to joy of applying - again - to change to settled?

Hello

There is nothing automatic when it comes to immigration.

The Home Office is never going to switch your limited leave into a permanent once just like that. You need to apply again when you reach 5 years.

Again, it's NOT automatic.

No worries.

I insisted on "not automatic" because it can have a disastrous effect on immigration if someone lets a status expire thinking that next one will be granted automatically. As this can cause the person to become illegal in the UK without any valid leave and no further option than to leave the country.
