I have settled status. My parents visited me in the UK for a few days in the past few years, last time in Oct 2019, my sister as well for like a week in August 2018.
They are outside the UK now (citizens of a EU country). Would they be able to apply for presettled status from outside the UK through the app?
If they do apply and get declined, would that have a negative effect on a potential next application (say for a permit to join a EU family member in the UK)? Thanks

Big impact on any future visitor visa, since their previous immigration application is proof their intention is to immigrate, not visit.

What you said makes sense. But I guess if they were to visit me physically in the UK at any point before June 2021 and then apply they could get it..? But there is the risk that the response might not come in time, right?

This question has two answers.

1) While the deadline for applying is June 2021, the deadline for coming as EU citizens in their own right was December 31st 2020. Therefore, no, they could not come and apply on their own right as EU citizens.

2) Your parents could come before June 30th 2021 and apply but not on their own right. They would come as dependent parents of a Settled EU citizen. However, this route is closed for your sister, only descendents or ancestors, or partners/spouses can apply in this way.

But there is the risk that the response might not come in time, right?

Deadlines are for application date, not outcome of application s. Any application logged on time will be processed and honoured.
