Hi,
I am a french citizen and we applied for a EEA2 for my husband (which is american).
The home office sent back our application as I did not put my passport (just a certfied copy).
The problem is that I need my passport to travel for work and go back home for Christmas.
How can I do to ask my passport back for the holiday season if we sent it back?
Cheers,
Alexandra

You can ask for your passport to be returned upon receipt.

Alternatively, why not send the UKBA your National ID card instead?

Hi there, yes under EEA regulations you can request your passport back, via:
LiverpoolEuro.PassportReturns@UKBA.gsi.gov.uk. Apparently they aim to return them within 10 working days. There is a helpline for emergency return of documents but you have to have a valid ‘emergency’ reason.
Just a word of warning from my experience – I submitted a notarised copy of my EEA partner’s passport and my application was returned, and I was told I had to submit the actual passport. This probably isn’t consistent across Home Office as I have heard that they accept other forms of ID, but just letting you know what happened to me.
Good luck!
